Have you ever used Alexa or Samsung Smart Hub? I have. At first, I just thought they were convenient. But then I realized—there’s more going on. Behind the scenes, IoT collects the data. Then, AI makes smart decisions for you. These two powerful technologies may seem different at first, but their true potential shines when they operate in harmony. What Is IoT?

IoT stands for devices like phones, appliances, and sensors that connect to the internet and share data automatically. These devices collect and exchange data in real time, often without human intervention. As a result, your home can now respond to your habits, and entire cities can function more efficiently. 

What Is AI?

Artificial Intelligence, or AI, refers to the ability of machines to simulate human intelligence. It involves analyzing large datasets, recognizing patterns, learning from experience, and making decisions. When paired with IoT, AI can make sense of the massive volume of data that IoT devices generate.


How can you tell the difference between IoT and AI?

I have many smart devices at home such as Ring, Nest. Before I studied for this posting, it was hard for me to tell which devices had Iot and Ai.
You think of IoT as hardware and Ai as software. When they combine, they become a powerful assistant in your daily life!  two tools,
-Ring: I have replaced my old door bell with a Ring for  both security purposes and convenience. When someone rings the door, I get a notification on my phone. It also records a video and lets me watch and answer from my phone (Even when I am overseas) These functions represent IoT; it collects data and shares with you. They wouldn’t make decisions for you.
-Nest: My old apartment had a Nest, but after moving into a new house, I realized I couldn’t go back to a traditional thermostat. Why? Because I am too lazy to change the temperature myself. I was able to change the temperature by phone(ioT). Even more, Google Nest learns my daily schedule. When I leave home, it turns off my AC and makes it cool around the time I get home. (AI) smart! isn’t it?  I didn’t make Nest to set my arrival or departure, it learned from my daily routine!  So, do I still live without a Nest now? Definitely not! I’ve replaced all the thermostats in my house with Nest. Honestly, I don’t think I can live without it anymore.

Like I mentioned earlier, recap of a smart thermostat: it remembers when you leave for work and come home. The IoT part records the time. The AI part? It figures out when to turn the AC on—without you saying a word.

Thanks to their synergy, devices can now respond in real time. A traffic sensor detects congestion (IoT), and AI reroutes vehicles or changes traffic lights accordingly. This immediate reaction is only possible when both systems are in sync.
